Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 To Use Same Game Engine As Modern Warfare 2

Robert Bowling ( Creative Strategist at Infinity Ward ) in a tweet stated that Activision’s upcoming magnum opus Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – which is being developed by Infinity Ward, Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games- is using the same game engine as Modern Warfare 2. According to him, developing a new game engine from the ground up is “counter productive. An engine takes years and years to develop and get right.”

That is true for the most part as many of you would have heard from the team at DICE that Frostbite 2.0 was in development for over six years – which is a lot of years in terms of development period for a game. But on the other hand, this news comes as a surprise, especially that DICE is planning to go all out with their upcoming magnum opus of a shooter – Battlefield 3.

And as EA has transparently stated that they are looking to steal the crown from Activision for having the best game in the world, surely one would have thought that the Call of Duty franchise will not go down without a fight. I’m siding with Battlefield 3 because from the trailers and screenshots available as of yet, it just proves beyond doubt that it will be an amazing experience.

Still, nothing is written in stone. As time goes by, Modern Warfare 3 may even jump out at us and surprise us in unimaginable ways. We can only wait and watch.

Let’s hope that they don’t f*ck the PS3 version as they did it with BO.
