"ZOMG! A TROPHY! LET'S GET 'EM ALL!"

In July 2008, with firmware update 2.40 Sony introduced the concept of Trophies. They were a way of tracking one’s accomplishments in any given game. Quintessentially, for gamers it meant bragging rights. Sony quite obviously made it mandatory for all developers to integrate the Trophy system in every game they made for the PS3.

inFamous was an open-world action game developed by Sucker Punch Productions of Sly Cooper fame. In inFamous, you played as Cole MacGrath – a messenger who imbibes superpowers after being caught in an explosion. It enables him to manipulate electricity.

Many gamers, even to this day, believe that a game is what it looks like. Everytime there’s a discussion about one game being better than the other, the first thing that the loyal fans throw at their opponents is that the game has “splendid” graphics. But is graphics everything? Is the gameplay mechanics totally unaccounted for?

When Sony – without much prior notice – pulled the plug on its support of the OtherOS feature on the PS3, gamers worldwide were enraged. Common thought has it that Sony did so in view of security concerns. The real reason maybe far from it. Read on.

Bulletstorm VS Killzone 3

That was a recent tweet from one of the leading influential men in the gaming industry himself – Cliffy Bleszinski. Yeah, read that again. And again. Did he just say mention Killzone? Well, he did. And quite obviously, he’s referring to Killzone 3 – which will hit stores this month.

As always, my statement is that today’s market is saturated with shoot-’em-up games. Although this is slowly changing with a variety of games belonging to different genres releasing in 2011 ( inFamous 2, The Last Guardian, and already released – LittleBigPlanet 2 ), by no means does it mean that we’ll be seeing the last of FPS games.

Cloud based storage? Hmmm... let's see...

It is rumoured that firmware update 3.60 will be brining cloud-based storage for games saves on the PS3. The main advantages are that you’ll be able to pick up where you left off at your friend’s place who has a PS3. If developers really care for the games they make, they would implement a feature wherein you can continue playing your game on your laptop while travelling ( or the NGP when it comes out, for that matter ) because the game’s save data is on the cloud.

For the past few weeks, Activision and Treyarch have come under fire from numerous outlets for cheating gamers by shipping out cheaper-than-the-cheapest copies of worldwide phenomenon Call of Duty: Black Ops for the PC and PS3 platform.

If you didn’t already know, a sequel to Media Molecule’s blockbuster hit LittleBigPlanet released very recently. I’m talking about LittleBigPlanet 2 – the game that literally is a platform for aspiring game designers to create games on.

The game has level-creation tools so deep that it’s just mind-numbing. You can make a myriad of games belonging to different genres, from side-scrolling games to RPGs to FPSs to hack ‘n slash. Nothing except your creativity can limit what you can do with the game’s tools.
