Unless you’ve been too involved with Killzone 3 or, maybe LittleBigPlanet 2 – you would’ve seen EPIC Games’s Samaritan tech demo at GDC ’11. If you haven’t, here you go:
And just so you know, all that is real-time. Nothing pre-rendered. On PC, it ran. What about the consoles? “We’re saying [consoles] should really step up their game.” The point that Executive Producer – Rod Fergusson – is trying to get across is that today’s ‘next-gen consoles’ aren’t really that next-gen. He justifies: “We think this is where gaming should be and when we look to the future we don’t see an ability to do this on console so we’re saying you should really step up your game, or do you want it to be owned by the PC?”
So it’s up to the console manufacturers to really “step up their game” and bring us truly innovative and powerful technologies, if the game developers have to realize their visions.
“Imagine Gears with that kind of fidelity. It would be awesome. And that’s the thing about us: it’s about the detail in our Gears world and being gritty – not clean or shallow. I think that level of detail with depth of field and post-processing, it’s all there. I’d love to have that for Gears.”
