Uncharted 3 was announced very recently at the VGAs, and it seems like Naughty Dog is definitely enjoying the hype and excitement surrounding the game. Uncharted 2 was sans doubt one of the best games this decade ( not exaggerating ), but apparently Naughty Dog managed to squeeze in the game onto a single Blu-Ray disc just 3 weeks before it went gold.
“If anyone on the team makes a face like, ‘Oh, we’re f*cked’, then we know we’re good,” said Naughty Dog co-president Christophe Balestra in an interview with the Edge magazine. “We have to be uncomfortable. Three weeks before shipping Uncharted 2, we couldn’t even fit the game in memory. The day we have no solution to that, that’s going to be a real problem.”
So if you’re wondering how Uncharted 3 will be bigger and better than its predecessor which barely managed to fit on a single Blu-Ray disc and maxed out the PS3, then here it is: “We shoot for the moon, which is what the artists want to see. We’re driven by artists, and it’s the job of the programmers to make it fit, in terms of memory and frame-rate. The artists will always go beyond what we have at our disposal, and Château is a perfect example.” Analogically speaking, Balestra also added that although Uncharted 2 used the PS3 available 6 SPUs ( 6 SPUs available for the game developers, out of the total 8 ), it used them at a level that street cars performed at. What about Uncharted 3? They use all 6 SPUs at a ‘Formula One’ level. That statement is alone enough to make the game climb a few spots at Amazon’s pre-order listings, is what I think.
